Thursday January 7th is the first of four epic days of hard-rocking, tyre-frying car festival action, firing up the nation’s capital and getting Australia’s biggest and best horsepower party started!
First up is the City Cruise where hundreds of the country’s toughest street machines hit the streets of Canberra, giving the locals a taste of the incredible showcase in store and setting the scene for the mind-blowing sights and sounds of 2000 cars with more than 100,000 fans coming to take part.
Over at the burnout pad those tyre-hating madmen with nothing to lose will be giving their cars and the crowd everything they’ve got as they fight for a spot in the Liqui-Moly Burnout Masters competition. Twenty of the country’s best skidders will bury the right boot and thrash their cars to the point of destruction as they battle for the final three Burnout Masters places in the Last Chance Wildcard Shootout. The best three will be rewarded with a chance to go up against the massive field of over 30 Burnout Masters who each have their eye on the ultimate prize - winning Sunday’s Liqui-Moly National Burnout Masters Final.
But just when you thought this massive first day of Summernats 29 couldn’t get any bigger, Thursday night sets the mood to shorts, thongs and rocking good times as the main stage lights up with Aussie music icons, You Am I, who will rock us through to 9pm when the muscle car movie classic The Dukes of Hazzard plays on the giant screen in the main arena. Surrounded by the coolest cars you’ll ever see at a drive-in, this is the ultimate way to round out what is set to be the biggest opening to the event in history!
