‘THE BOSS’ STEVENS PUTS OUT BURNOUT CHALLENGE TO
AUSTRALIA |

Champion and professional stunt driver Brett
‘The Boss’ Stevens has put out the
challenge to all comers, both professional and amateur, to
take him on in a winner takes all Burnout Competition to help celebrate
the 21st birthday of one of countries largest motoring events the
Canberra Summernats from January 3-6, 2008.
Stevens, who is Australia’s most high
profile professional Drag Racer, and Summernats organiser Chic Henry
have got together to organise the Burnout Gladiator Face-Off to help
mark the significant milestone of the event.
“I was talking to Chic (Henry) and we
really wanted to make the 21st Birthday of the Summernats the biggest
and best ever, something the fans will always remember,”
Stevens said.
“So I thought ‘why not put out
the challenge for a head to head Burnout competition with me where
anyone can enter?’”
“The Summernats is the ideal place for
people with an itch to burn rubber to do so as much as they like in a
legal, controlled environment with proper safely measures in
place.”
“And now they will have the opportunity
to show the world what they have by going head to head against me in my
Jack Daniel’s Racing Burnout Ute.”
Stevens is one of Australia’s leading
Drag Racers and is the only person in the world to compete in three
professional Group 1 Drag Racing brackets simultaneously (Top
Doorslammer, Top Bike and Top Alcohol).
Some of his recent Drag Racing accomplishments
include winning the 2004 Australian Top Doorslammer and the 2005
Australian Top Bike Championships, member of the Australian Motorcycle
Hall of Fame, holder of the quickest Australian Harley record with
quarter mile run of 6.4 seconds, as well as various other records and
titles.
Held annually in the first weekend in January at
Exhibition Park In Canberra (EPIC), the Summernats is
Australia’s biggest celebration of all things horsepower.
Over 100,000 spectators come through the gates to
see thousands of cars cruise the kilometres of roadways, legally
stretch performance to the maximum in the outrageous Burnout and
Go-Whoa competitions on the world’s first and only
purpose-built burnout facility and be tortured on the Chassis Dyno, as
well as admire the Top 60 Show, Car Audio Sound Off, and Miss
Summernats in a high spirited, automotive, New Year atmosphere.

| VICTOR BRAY BRINGING "BLACK BESS" |

These are shots of Victor Bray's Black Bess 57 Chevy,
his first
dedicated race 57 race car. Victor plans to have Black Bess cruising at
the Summernats.
The
original 1957 chev was really built up as a street car only and was
used by Victor for many years as just that. As the modifications were
added over several years the car was finally raced at Surfers Paradise
International Raceway and was the very first car Victor ever put down a
Drag Strip.

The firey return of the Bandag Bullet
truck. Australia’s wildest burnout machine.
The Bandag Bullet is now the world’s fastest truck after
blasting down the runway at the 2005 Queensland I.A.S held at Bundaberg
Airport smashing the world record for a one kilometre run, and
potentially setting eight world records on the way.
The Bullet set the record for a conventionally powered truck, reaching
a record terminal speed of over 300 kilometres per hour –
from a standing start. Its running Two
V8 92-Series Detroit Diesel engines fitted with two blowers, four turbo
chargers and injected with nitrous oxide.

LEGEND PERFORMING AT SUMMERNATS 21! (FOR THE LAST TIME) |

After performing over 30 different stunts over 12 years for the
Summernats car festival Lawrence Legend will be performing
at Summernats for the last time.
2008 will celebrate the 21st birthday of the Summernats car festival
and organisers have asked Lawrence to go out with a bang.
“I will not be retiring from doing stunts just not doing the
BIG stunts like I do at Summernats”. “I would like
to concentrate on setting a few more World records for driving a car on
two wheels and raise much needed money for charities”.
Lawrence is planning on using the 2008 Summernats to perform the
“Stuntman’s Gauntlet” a stunt which will
see a luxury Rolls Royce car destroyed. The stunt consists of three
stunts in one, the tunnel of Fire, Bus crash & Sky crash.
Lawrence will drive his 1979 Silver Shadow Rolls Royce across the
infield through a tunnel of fire then up a ramp into the back of a bus
smash though the bus and then crash into three cars stacked on top of
each other.
One of the hardest things to do in this stunt is to keep the car
straight throughout the stunt. As the Rolls comes into the tunnel of
fire Lawrence will be temporarily blinded from the flames, as he
emerges from the tunnel he will have to drive up the narrow ramp into
the bus. As explosions rip through the bus Lawrence must maintain speed
so that the Rolls will punch through the end of the bus and launch into
the stack of cars that awaits him on the other side.
“I’m a little nervous about crashing into the end
of the bus as another stuntman was decapated doing the same
thing”.
Alain Vincx 39 of Belgium was performing a similar stunt when his
Chevrolet Camaro left the ramp to fast and launched his car into the
roof of the bus and totally sheared the roof of his car decapitating
him. Lawrence admits that he will be keeping his head low.
